These irises were growing in the flower beds of the tiny backyard of our rented rowhouse when we first moved to Baltimore years ago. They were a wonderful little oasis in a sea of urban noise and clutter. The woman who rented us the house said they were the best batch of irises that had bloomed in that space in years. it was as if they did it just for us, because they knew how much we missed the wild beauty of Montana.
I loved this particular angle on the irises because it looks like the one in the bottom right is whispering something to the one on the upper left, as if they have ears. It struck me as such a wonderfully intimate portrait of these beautiful blooms.
